Walk Ride Bath(NES) has now submitted their response to the Keynsham consultation.

We support the proposed walking, wheeling and cycling route along Keynsham bypass, lower speed limits and better access to express buses. Our submission asks for several changes:

• Bring buses closer to trains. Move the bypass stops to the Pool Barton and Station Road area, with step-free access to both stops and a shorter transfer to Keynsham station.
• Make access safe after dark. Passengers should not have to walk through isolated parts of Memorial Park to catch a bus. Keep the proposed park entrance for walking and wheeling.
• Provide a direct cycle connection to the station. A ramp at Pool Barton would link the bypass path to the station and town centre without relying on cycling through the park, where it is prohibited.
• Build enough space. We want the full 3.45km bypass path retained, with 5.5 metres of usable width to allow future separation of walking and cycling, and access suitable for wheelchairs, adapted cycles and trailers.
• Connect the wider network. Link planned development at Hicks Gate to the railway, safeguard connections towards Somerdale and Bitton, and assess traffic impacts and crossing safety on the A431.

We have asked WECA to publish a proper comparison of the bus-stop options, including accessibility, personal safety, engineering and costs, before fixing the design.
