Removing barriers to walking and wheeling

A route is only as useful as it’s most restrictive point.

This will ring true for anyone who has tried to navigate a pushchair or mobility scooter, particularly in the suburban areas of Bath where public rights of way have too often been made impassible by the installation of metal barriers. This is something I have previously blogged about

Happily, we are starting to see some progress on this front. Several routes have now had metal barriers removed, which is great news. Thanks to the Highways Team and the Permanent Rights of Way team for their cooperation in giving equal access to all in our society.

So if there are barriers in your community that prevent you taking the routes you wish to when walking or wheeling, get in touch with your local councillors and alert them (you can search for contact details here). You have a legal right to equal treatment and the council are well aware of that.

WRB are happy to provide further support to anyone on this matter- just get in touch
