Slow down for safety

For anyone trying to understand the benefits of a default 20mph in urban areas, the Welsh government just published this analysis showing savings of over £100 million in the first year. We need a blanket 20mph speed limit across all of Bath and surrounding towns and villages. Changing six miles of roads to 20mph is a start but with both Wales and Scotland introducing default 20mph urban speed limits (I’d also like to see 30mph on rural unclassified roads) it’s time England got with the program, saved itself a ton of money and took some pressure off the NHS.

Around six more miles of city highway are being subjected to 20mph speed limits as part of an ongoing effort by Bath & North East Somerset council to improve air quality, reduce the risk of accidents and encourage more walking, wheeling and cycling by making its roads safer for pedestrians.

The consultation received 141 responses, with 53% supporting the implementation of 20mph speed limits and a further 13% supporting in part.

Bath & North East Somerset council are currently in the process of introducing 20mph speed limits at the following locations: London Road, The Paragon, Cleveland Place, Bathwick Street, Sydney Place, Darlington Street, Beckford Road, North Road, Bathwick Hill, Widcombe Hill, Copseland, Prior Park, Ralph Allen Drive.

  1. And also looking forward to UBR being 20mph under the ATS.

Have been chasing the Council for 5 months on this but still no signs for UBR. However, for the area represented by the Cllr responsible for Transport the signs have been put up.

  2. 3rd time lucky on posting a comment!!

Also waiting for the 20mph signage for UBR. We have been asking for this for the past 6 months and still the Council are delaying the implementation. We need this to make leaving on this road safe (first started asking for this in 2008)
